Highlights of Barb's appearances at Adelaide cabaret festival, Melbourne's celebration of American songbook and Australian tour.
The major part of her great popularity, of course, is her marvellous voice and her remarkable control over it, with a wide range, huge dynamic variations, and her ability to express the full range of emotions. When Barb Jungr sings, every muscle in her body is engaged, from subtle changes to her facial expressions through to dropping down into a tight crouch. Once can only hope for a return visit very soon.
Live she's a lioness. And this is where Jungr's real strength lies: scalpelling her way under our skin with the rawest moments of her saddest songs, and then reviving us with another dose of the 'tween-song smelling salts that are her hilarious stories.
Sydney Morning Herald
A true superstar of cabaret. Weaving distinctive interpretations of classic songs alongside original compositions with anecdotal narrative that is both revealingly personal and highly comical, UK singer Barb Jungr is everything cabaret should be.
Jungr is comfortable and relaxed in her own skin and it shows. As far as cabaret goes, Jungr is the real deal and will be remembered as a high point of the 2013 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
Her style and voice defy categorisation: soul, blues, gospel and jazz; she does it all and her ability to communicate a song’s story with every fibre of her being is truly remarkable. This was my first live experience of Barb Jungr and it was so much more satisfying than listening to recordings. This lady is a classy performer and I left the concert knowing I had heard and seen something special, and the feeling was good, very good indeed.
This is a performer at the peak of her career who has been acknowledged worldwide. Time Out New York awarded her CD 'The Men I Love' Best Cabaret CD of the year in 2010. Jungr remains an Adelaide Cabaret festival favourite.
Global Media Post
Jungr demonstrated her startling ability to cut straight to a song's emotional core, conveying the heartbreaking journey from youthful fantasy to crushing reality. With minimalist arrangements and unusually slow tempos, Jungr focuses her attention squarely on melody and lyrics, drawing us into the story within each song as she makes it hers - and ours.
